Korean Sunscreen Sellers in the US: Who Ships Which Formula
This is a September 3, 2026 seller and product snapshot. Its central buying question is which market version a seller supplies: an original Korean formula or a US-specific sunscreen. Shipping eligibility, prices and stock can change, so confirm the exact SKU and destination at checkout.

The two products that share a name
Korea regulates sunscreen as a functional cosmetic, while the US regulates it as an OTC drug. A US sunscreen must meet the applicable monograph conditions or have an approved new drug application. Our US availability explainer covers why a brand may sell different market versions.
Both examples below were checked on September 3, 2026.
| Brand | Korean-market version | US version |
|---|---|---|
| Round Lab | Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Cream, SPF50+ PA++++, listed at 22,500 won (RRP 25,000 won) on the brand's Korean site | Birch Juice Moisturizing UVlock, $24.99 at Olive Young US. Actives: avobenzone 2.70%, homosalate 13.50%, octisalate 4.50% |
| Beauty of Joseon | Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics, SPF50+ PA++++ | Daily Relief Sunscreen, "SPF 40 / Broad Spectrum, US Exclusive", $18 on the brand's own site |
The checked Round Lab US listing used the name “UVlock” and listed avobenzone, homosalate and octisalate as actives. Beauty of Joseon’s Daily Relief listing described an SPF 40 US-exclusive product. These were distinct from the Korean SPF50+ products in the comparison.
The Korean Round Lab price and the US UVlock price refer to different formulations. Compare the full product name, size and active panel before comparing cost. Our PA and Broad Spectrum label guide covers the UVA claims.
Olive Young US replaced the channel most guides still recommend
CJ Olive Young registered CJ Olive Young USA in Los Angeles on February 4, 2025. On May 29, 2026 it opened its first American store, 8,647 square feet at 58 W. Colorado Blvd in Pasadena, carrying roughly 400 brands and 5,000 SKUs, and launched us.oliveyoung.com the same day.
The same date closed the old route. Olive Young Global, which had carried the identical assortment sold in Korean stores and shipped it to 150 countries, stopped shipping to all fifty US states; US addresses are now redirected to the American storefront. Most English-language shopping guides written before June 2026 still name Olive Young Global as the way to get Korean sunscreen, and that advice no longer works.
Korean coverage caught the friction that English roundups did not. Herald Business reported on June 4, 2026 that American shoppers were complaining about higher prices, a thinner assortment, and a membership reset: the top tier had required $300 of spending on the global mall and now requires $600 over six months, with global-mall coupons and accumulated points not transferable. The company acknowledged the feedback and pointed to promotions and new brand additions. Fashionista's report from inside the Pasadena store is explicit about the one category that changed most: Korean original sunscreen formulas are not carried because the FDA treats sunscreen as an OTC drug, while most other categories keep the same formula sold in Korea.
Olive Young is not slowing down. It has said it aims to open four US stores during 2026, with the second at Westfield Century City, and it opened a West Coast fulfillment center in March 2026. The wider trade backdrop supports the bet: Korean cosmetics exports to the US hit $620 million in the first quarter of 2026, up 40.9% year on year.
What each seller actually ships
Five routes, ordered by how close each one lands to the Korean domestic product rather than by price or preference.
| Seller | What arrives | Ships from | Authorization |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross-border retailers (YesStyle, Stylevana, Wooltari USA) | Korean-market or Korea-made export SKUs. Wooltari USA lists a Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen at SPF 45+ for $20.39 | Asia, or a US warehouse holding imported stock | Varies by brand; check that brand's own authorized-retailer page |
| Olive Young Global | Nothing. Closed to all US addresses since May 29, 2026 | — | — |
| Olive Young US (us.oliveyoung.com, Pasadena) | US-compliant reformulations only, e.g. Round Lab UVlock at $24.99 | United States | Olive Young's own US subsidiary |
| Brand-operated US sites (e.g. beautyofjoseon.com) | US-exclusive SKUs such as the SPF 40 Daily Relief Sunscreen at $18 | United States | First-party |
| Open marketplaces (Amazon, eBay) | Anything, including stock the brand did not authorize | Anywhere | Beauty of Joseon publishes both an authorized-retailer list and a page stating its products are not sold on Amazon |
Sephora is a sixth route worth watching rather than relying on: it announced a partnership with Olive Young on January 20, 2026 to carry a curated Korean beauty selection online and in dedicated in-store zones, but the announcement did not break out sunscreen specifically.
Parallel imports are not fakes, but they travel the same road
병행수입 means parallel import: genuine goods supplied through a third party rather than the official distribution channel. It describes the distribution route, not a guarantee that the listing is authentic or that a sunscreen meets US requirements. Check brand authorization and the exact product separately.
Three checks that follow from this:
- Open the brand's own site before the seller's. Several Korean brands now publish an authorized-retailer list, and at least one publishes a page stating outright that it does not sell on Amazon.
- Compare the exact active-ingredient panel with the brand’s page for that market. An ingredient outside the US monograph identifies a compliance question; it does not authenticate the seller or guarantee lawful import.
- Read PA as a UVA-protection grade. Its presence alone does not prove a product’s country of origin, authenticity or US regulatory status.
Which route fits which buyer
- For the exact Korean-market formula, verify a retailer’s current US shipping policy, brand authorization and SKU. Do not assume every cross-border listing supplies the domestic version.
- You want a sunscreen that is legally a US drug product, tested to the Broad Spectrum standard. Olive Young US or the brand's own US site. This is also the answer if you need to be able to return it easily.
- You want the brand's texture and finish and are not attached to the Korean rating. The US-exclusive SKUs are made by the same Korean manufacturers; Round Lab's UVlock is produced by Kolmar Korea.
- You are comparing prices. Compare like with like. A $24.99 US reformulation and a 22,500 won Korean tube are different products, and the cheaper listing is not automatically the better buy.
- Avoid sellers whose identity, product version or return terms you cannot verify. Price alone does not establish authenticity.
