Korean Cushion Foundation: Read Korea's 2026 Rankings

Two unbranded cushion foundation compacts comparing luminous and matte makeup finishes

Korea's 2026 cushion-foundation rankings do not point to one universally best compact. Glowpick's first-half awards put a mesh-matte cushion first, a long-running natural-finish cushion second, and four more formulas with very different review histories behind them. The useful way to read the list is to choose a finish first, then use rating and review volume to judge how much evidence sits behind each option.

The six cushions Korean reviewers put on the shortlist

Glowpick is a Korean beauty-review platform, and its awards are driven by consumer-review data rather than a single editor's wear test. The platform's 2026 first-half cushion-foundation list placed six products in the order below. It includes Korean and international brands because the category reflects products reviewed in the Korean market; it is not a nationality test.

2026 rank Product Finish signal Displayed rating Reviews SPF / PA label
1 hince Second Skin Mesh Matte Cushion Mesh, matte 4.31 1,275 SPF40 / PA++
2 JUNGSAEMMOOL Essential Skin Nuder Cushion Natural skin finish 4.17 5,103 SPF50+ / PA+++
3 MAC Studio Fix Longwear Cushion Foundation Long-wear 4.62 317 SPF50 / PA+++
4 YSL Beauty Touche Eclat Glow-Pact Cushion Glow 4.46 836 SPF50+ / PA++++
5 HERA Black Cushion Foundation Cover-focused 4.38 1,492 SPF34 / PA++
6 CHICOR Shine Mesh Cushion Mesh, shine 4.53 60 SPF50+ / PA++++

The order and the star score are not the same thing. CHICOR showed 4.53 but placed sixth, while JUNGSAEMMOOL showed 4.17 and placed second. That is not an error to fix by re-sorting the table. An award can use an eligibility window and ranking calculation that differ from the live number shown later on a product page. Treat the award rank as a dated result and the displayed rating as a second signal, not as interchangeable measurements.

Finish comes before rank

A cushion is a delivery format: foundation sits under a sponge or mesh and is picked up with a puff. The compact does not guarantee a particular finish. Korea's own award navigation makes that clear by separating glow cushion foundation from matte cushion foundation in its rookie section. LUNA's Long Lasting Conceal Cushion and Muzigae Mansion's Stain Nude Mesh Cushion appeared under glow cushion foundation, while espoir's Silk Skin Layer Cushion appeared under matte cushion foundation.

That split is the most practical starting point for a buyer. If shine breaking through is the problem you want to solve, begin with a matte or long-wear candidate rather than buying the overall number one blindly. If flatness and visible dry texture are the problem, begin with a glow or mesh-glow candidate. Natural-finish cushions sit between those ends and usually ask you to control shine with skin preparation and targeted powder rather than with the foundation alone.

The first-place hince compact signals its direction plainly: mesh and matte. The sixth-place CHICOR compact also uses mesh, but its name signals shine. Mesh describes how product is dispensed, not the finish it leaves. Pressing harder can overload either type, so the format still rewards a light hand.

Use the puff to build coverage in thin passes. Press once, work from the center of the face outward, then add a second layer only where needed. Dragging the puff can move sunscreen and moisturizer underneath; repeated tapping is slower but gives more control. Around the nose and under the eyes, fold the puff rather than forcing its full round surface into a small area.

Review volume changes how much confidence to place in a score

The largest number in the table is JUNGSAEMMOOL's 5,103 reviews. That is more than the other five displayed review counts combined. Its 4.17 score is lower than every other product on the list, but the much larger sample suggests that the product has been evaluated across a wider range of users and expectations. A lower score with thousands of reviews can be more informative than a very high score supported by only dozens.

CHICOR is the opposite case. Its 4.53 is strong, but 60 reviews make the average more sensitive to a small group of unusually positive or negative experiences. That does not make it a bad product. It means the score should carry less weight than finish, shade match, return policy and a buyer's tolerance for risk.

HERA had 1,492 displayed reviews, hince 1,275, YSL Beauty 836 and MAC 317. Reviewers use different skincare, application amounts and wear conditions, so these counts do not form a controlled performance comparison.

Review count describes the size of the record, not the independence or representativeness of reviewers. Read repeated, specific comments about finish and wear alongside the score.

Read SPF and PA as label information, not your full sunscreen plan

Every cushion in this six-product list carries an SPF claim, and the PA grades range from PA++ to PA++++. Those labels can be helpful when comparing versions sold in Korea, but foundation application rarely matches the amount used in formal sunscreen testing. Most people tap on enough cushion to get the finish and coverage they want, not a thick, uniform sunscreen dose.

Use cushion SPF as supplementary protection over a dedicated sunscreen, not as permission to skip it. The compact is especially useful for touch-ups where applying liquid foundation again would be awkward, but a few taps do not prove that the face has returned to the protection printed on the package.

The PA symbols also should not be converted directly into a US Broad Spectrum claim. Korea's PA system reports a graded UVA-protection band, while the US label uses a pass-or-fail Broad Spectrum standard. Our guide to reading Korean PA and US Broad Spectrum labels explains the difference. The important shopping point here is simpler: compare the exact label on the version you are buying, and keep a separate sunscreen underneath.

Match the cushion to the layers underneath

Cushion performance starts before the compact opens. A rich cream that remains mobile can make a matte cushion slide, while an aggressively dry base can make even a glow cushion catch on texture. Let skincare settle, then test the smallest foundation amount that evens the center of the face.

If your morning layers feel heavy, changing moisturizer may solve more than changing foundation. Korea's own review categories distinguish lighter hydrating creams from richer moisturizing creams; our hydrating-versus-barrier cream guide shows how to choose the layer beneath sunscreen and makeup.

Powder only where it solves a problem. A glow cushion can stay luminous on the cheeks while a small amount of powder controls the nose and forehead. A matte cushion may need no powder at all, especially around dry areas. This targeted approach preserves the finish you chose instead of turning every cushion into the same flat base.

Shade is the final gate. Korean base ranges often use numbers such as 17, 21, 22, 23 or 25, but the same number is not guaranteed to match across brands. Undertone labels also vary. Check the exact brand chart, compare swatches made in similar light, and buy from a seller with a workable return policy. An award rank cannot rescue the wrong depth or undertone.

Before ordering, match the full product and shade name to the listing you researched. For a replacement rather than a new compact, our Laneige Neo refill guide explains why case compatibility and shade matching need separate checks.
